FY26 Postdoctoral Minimum Compensation

Published May 20, 2025, via Research News

The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs is pleased to announce that, effective on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, the minimum compensation for all WashU postdoctoral appointees will be $63,120 per year (defined as a 12-month appointment).

This minimum compensation (salary or stipend) has been established by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research based on the NIH NRSA postdoctoral stipend amounts as set forth in the notice NOT-OD-25-105. Note that WashU only establishes the required minimum salary or stipend. WashU does not define a compensation scale nor a maximum compensation amount for postdoctoral appointees.

Following WashU postdoctoral policy, when extramural agencies set stipends at a rate less than the WashU minimum, it is required that the principal investigator or department provide additional funding to bring the total compensation of the postdoctoral appointee up to at least the established minimum.

All postdoctoral appointees should complete an annual review with their faculty supervisor and receive compensation increases reflective of their experience and performance. The NIH NRSA scale could serve as a guide for annual increases. A postdoctoral annual review template is available on the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs’ Policies & Benefits webpage.

Please share this information with others in your department. If you have questions, please contact the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs at postdoc@wustl.edu.
