The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Extramural Loan Repayment Programs (LRP) application cycle opened Sunday, September 1, 2026, and will close on Thursday, November 19, 2026. Please see this procedures document for important information regarding the LRP process and obtaining approval from the Office of Sponsored Research Services (OSRS). Note that the Institutional Business Official (IBO) for the applicant organization should be listed as Tanya Popovich-Sawyer, not Teri Medley, with eRA Commons ID of CHITWN62208.
The NIH Loan Repayment Programs are a set of programs established by Congress and designed to recruit and retain highly qualified health professionals into biomedical or biobehavioral research careers. The LRPs repay up to $50,000 annually of a researcher’s qualified educational debt in return for a commitment to engage in NIH mission-relevant research.
