NIH Requirements Change: Biographical Sketch & Other Support

Published March 19, 2025, via Research News

For NIH applications due on or after May 25, 2025, faculty are required to use SciENcv Common Forms to complete all Biographical Sketch, Biographical Sketch Supplement, and Current and Pending (Other) Support documents.

Submissions through May 24, 2025, must continue to use the current NIH Biosketch and Other Support format pages.

Major changes for applications due after May 25, 2025:

  • Common Forms must be completed in SciENcv.
  • Forms will have an updated format.
    • NIH will no longer accept the NIH Biographical Sketch format page.
    • NIH will require the use of a new NIH Biographical Sketch Supplement to collect the “Personal Statement,” “Contributions to Science,” and “Honors” statements.
    • NIH will require that Other Support be completed and digitally signed within SciENcv. DocuSign and Adobe signatures will no longer be accepted.
  • Key personnel must digitally certify documents in SciENcv before submission.
  • Faculty must enter their ORCID ID in the forms.

Steps to take now:

  1. Obtain an ORCID ID. Please see the Becker Library resources guide for instructions on how to set up your account.
  2. Create a SciENcv account, linking it to your ORCID ID.
  3. Assign delegates in SciENcv. Delegates can enter Common Form information but cannot certify documents. Individuals must have a SciENcv account before they can be added as a delegate.

The NCBI last communicated that the new Common Forms will be available in SciENcv on March 25, 2025, to provide time to transition information, but that date has not been confirmed. When the new forms are available, work with your department research administrator to complete additional tasks as needed.
