The Chemical and Environmental Analysis Facility (CEAF) at Washington University in St. Louis is an open shared instrument facility of the EECE department. The facility is open to personnel from academic institutions and industries with the aim to provide state-of-the-art instrumentation and technical expertise for a broad spectrum of sample analysis. The facility supports the chemical and environmental aspects of research in areas such as engineering, earth and planetary sciences, physics, chemistry, biology, and medical school. Additionally, the CEAF offers professional advice on sample preparation, quality control, data interpretation, equipment acquisition, and analysis of samples. The staff at the facility is also in charge of educating facility users on analytical tools and sample analysis. With a space of 9.000 net square feet, the CEAF is equipped to analyze both inorganic and organic samples, including elemental and molecular analysis, polymers, nanoparticles, and biological analysis.
The facility is located in Brauer Hall and Whitaker Hall on the Danforth Campus.
Our mission is to be a resource to the scientific and technical community for the advancement of research in a safe and environmentally benign manner.
Core Description
The instruments in the Chemical and Environmental Analysis Facility is organized in the following categories:
1. ELEMENTAL AND MOLECULAR ANALYSIS
2.POLYMER AND NANOPARTICLE ANAYLSIS
3.BIOLOGICAL ANALYSIS
4.SAMPLE PREPARATION
A fee is charged to use of the CEAF instruments. These fees will help recover a portion of the costs associated with the operation and maintenance of the instrument. An instrument-training fee is charged per user per instrument. Each equipment requires 2 sessions of the training. If additional training is necessary, it will be billed at the hourly rate for the appropriate instrument. Cancellation must be made at least 6 hours in advance to avoid booking time. The rates are billed by booked time and by real – time usage in excess of booked time. There will be an additional cost for consumables for the sample analysis such as cuvettes, BET cell, standard solutions etc. You can borrow from CEAF or you can purchase directly from the company if it requires frequently. CEAF staff members will provide the service as per your requirement to analyze the samples. Please contact the CEAF staff for the information a quote. The payment can be made through fund transfer among grants or department at WashU, and by check from external users. The fees are revised annually based upon the WashU Fiscal year (July 1 – July 30).
