Hosting International Visitors

Hosting international visitors, even for a short period of time, should go through your business office in advance of their arrival. Different processes may apply depending on the type of visitor.

WashU Global has additional details for Hosting International Visitors.

Required Screenings must be completed:

  • For visiting faculty, staff, and students where WashU is supporting their visa application, the Office of International Students and Scholars works with the Export Controls Office to appropriately screen individuals and institutions for government restrictions. This also initiates export control assessments around allowable interactions, access to controlled equipment, and additional requirements for H-1B visas.
  • For all others, complete a restricted party screening because individuals and institutions may be on government restricted lists, limiting allowable interactions or prohibiting access to controlled information and equipment. Contact Export Controls to complete an assessment, especially if the visitors are from a countries of concern.

If the visitor will be engaged in research activities, review sponsor requirements to ensure allowability. Seek sponsor approval when required.

A Prior Approval Request is required if a visitor is associated with an External Professional Activity (EPA) to ensure allowability. For prior approval questions, Contact COI@wustl.edu or 314.747.4181.
